The Best Postpartum Pajamas: All My Favorites

written by: Lo Mansfield, RN, MSN, CLC

Postpartum right now or is it coming up? Perfect. Currently on baby number 4, I feel like I’ve been postpartum forever! If you didn’t know, I love hanging out over on Instagram – it’s my favorite place to connect with you all! Since I’ve been sharing my current postpartum season over there, I’ve been getting a lot of DMs lately about postpartum pajamas.

With so many options available, it can be overwhelming. And maybe right now, you’re packing your hospital bag (grab my free checklist here if you haven’t yet) and wishing you had some new pajama sets. Or, it’s 2am and you’re up feeding your sweet babe, realizing what you’ve got on isn’t working, and you need some pajamas that are both breastfeeding-friendly and help you feel a bit more put together.

You’ve come to the right place! As a mama who has gone through 4 breastfeeding journeys, I’m pretty decided on what I like. So, I’ve gathered up all of my favorite options for you. Personally, I prefer shorts and button-up options because I’m always SO hot (hello postpartum hot flashes and night sweats – and yes, I definitely teach about all of that craziness in the Beyond the Birth course) and long pants and sleeves feel suffocating. So, you’ll see all sets with shorts. But don’t worry, I have a couple of options for you if you like long pants, too (I break those out in the Winter, for sure).

Let’s dive in and chat about the best postpartum pajamas that will keep you cozy through every night feed and nap. Hopefully some of my favorites will make your postpartum season a little easier and a lot more comfortable.

But first – Who is The Labor Mama and Why Am I Here?

Hey friend! I’m Lo – also known around here and social media as The Labor Mama. I’ve spent my nursing career in labor, delivery, and postpartum, have birthed 4 of my own babies, have labored thousands of mamas at the bedside, have taught thousands of students online, and have even delivered a few speedy little babies with my bare hands (oops).

Here at TLM, I offer online classes about birth, postpartum, newborn care, and breastfeeding to empower you the way everyone should be. The education + support I offer gives you experience, evidence, and empathy; you’re getting all of my years of “clinical” RN knowledge, honestly combined with my real experiences as a mama and a nurse. These are not your average hospital classes (those won’t do it, I promise), and honestly, birth, postpartum, and breastfeeding don’t follow a textbook or protocol anyway. You need to know so much more than that!

If you want to connect with me further, head to Instagram. There are hundreds of thousands of us over there learning together daily.

My Favorite Postpartum Pajamas: Short Sets

01. Senert Pajama Sets

The Senert pajamas are my absolute favorite, especially for the warmer months. They’re made from a thinner, breathable fabric that keeps you cool and comfortable, which is a must when you’re already feeling hot and sweaty. Plus, they have pockets – yay! They come in a ton of colors, so you can pick your favorites or mix and match. All that good stuff aside, they’ve held up really well through countless washes, making them a steal for the price. The drawstring waistband is also a lifesaver for a postpartum stomach, providing just the right amount of adjustability and comfort.

02. Ekouaer Pajamas Set

The Ekouaer pajamas are super nice as well. They’re a bit thicker than the Senert ones, giving them a more luxurious feel that’s perfect for when you want to feel a bit more put together. If you want a little weight to the fabric, it’s these. Despite their affordable price, they honestly feel way nicer than what they cost, offering a level of comfort and quality that’s hard to beat.

03. Ekouaer Waffle Set

The Ekouaer Waffle set is honestly so versatile that it can double as a daytime outfit if you wanted (see the other colors if you’re wanting a neutral). The fabric is thicker, giving it a feel that makes it look and feel like a real outfit rather than just pajamas. I’ve been wearing them as PJs, but they really are stylish and comfortable enough to wear out and about. Plus, you can easily wear the pieces as separates. The top works perfectly as a casual shirt paired with jeans or leggings, giving you even more bang for your buck.

04. Stars Above Pajamas (now replaced by Cloud Knit by Auden)

The Target Stars Above pajamas are a crowd favorite, and it is SO easy to see why. Everyone loves them, and I do too. They’re super soft, incredibly comfortable, and very affordable, making them a great choice for anyone looking for cozy postpartum pajamas. However, while I like these, I have to say that I think the Senert and Ekouaer pajamas are even better. Both the Senert and Ekouaer sets offer the same level of softness and affordability, but the quality of those brands is higher in my opinion. So, while the Stars Above pajamas are still a solid choice and definitely worth considering, they’re no longer my top pick (I know, I’m surprised I’m saying it too)!

*UPDATE: Target has discountinued their Stars Above pajamas! The replacement for those is the Cloud Knit sets by Auden – which look and feel and seem to fit similarly/the same and the reviews remain stellar.

05. SWOMOG Pajama Set

These SWOMOG pajamas are what I wore the day my 4th was born! They are thin and airy, which means they’re not too sweaty – perfect for those postpartum days and nights when you’re running hot. They’re incredibly comfy and soft, and the best part is they’re not restrictive at all on the stomach, providing much-needed comfort during recovery. I also love the little ruffle detail on these pajamas; it adds a touch of charm and makes them feel a little extra special.

My Favorite Postpartum Pajamas: Pants Sets

Ok, if you are a pants/long-sleeved set lover, then yes, I have opinions here too! I live in Colorado, so it does get super cold in the Winter and I would be pulling these sets out if I were postpartum then (like with my 3rd baby). You might prefer pants in the hospital post birth too (I don’t but tons of my patients did); you can’t go wrong with these sets.

01. Cozy Earth Long Sleeve Bamboo Pajama Set

If I were to choose long sleeves and pants, this Cozy Earth Bamboo set is a top pick. The fabric is crazy soft, and their color palettes are always beautiful. One of the best features for me is that they come in Tall sizes! As a 5’10” mama, finding pajamas that fit well can be a challenge, so this is a huge plus. Cozy Earth manages to combine style, comfort, and practicality in a way that’s perfect for all (including tall!) moms.

02. Sunflower Motherhood Tall Mama Pajamas

The Sunflower Motherhood pajamas are some of the softest pajamas I’ve ever worn, with a great thickness that strikes the perfect balance between cozy and breathable. They fit so well, and because of their thicker material, they’re ideal for winter or colder months. They’ve quickly become one of my top picks for when the temperature drops, and I find myself reaching for them time and time again. (They do have a shorts option too! Shop those here.)

To wrap up TLM’s best postpartum pajamas guide…

Everyone has their own opinion on what the best postpartum pajamas are, and these are by far my top picks (I truly rotated through the 5 shorts sets EVERY night for months after my 4th was born). I encourage you to try out a few different sets to find what works best for YOU. Discovering the perfect postpartum pajamas might take a bit of trial and error, but once you find that ideal fit, it can make all the difference in your comfort and overall postpartum experience.

Whether you prefer the thin, airy feel of the SWOMOG set, the versatile and stylish Ekouaer Waffle set, or the luxurious coziness of the Cozy Earth pajamas, there’s something out there for every mama. Of course, don’t forget the practical and beloved Target Stars Above set (they go on sale often!) or the winter-ready warmth of the Sunflower Motherhood pajamas. Each of these options offers unique benefits for every mama.
